Happy May!
We are so happy that summer is coming. The kiddos are MORE than ready to be out of school and I am more than ready for some "slow" time at work! It's been a crazy few months.
Today was the first time in a long time that I got to play in my craft room. I worked on two projects for frames in my den. I love getting to play AND taking care of a task on my list around the house. The kids were playing with their friends and swimming (Yay summer!) and I get to hang out in total quiet upstairs. (Aside from the occasional request for food - it's a really nice setup, actually.)
This week over at Four Crafty Chicks, the challenge is to show a project using your favorite embellishment. Of course, it's hard for me to name THE favorite but most definitely A favorite is ribbon. I don't really consider a project complete unless I've been able to work a piece in somewhere. Doesn't always happen - but more often than not.
I felt like I was really splurging when I picked up this gorgeous hand-dyed crinkle ribbon from My Craft Spot. I love it and can't wait to order more. I went "practical", as always, and ordered a neutral trio with dark browns and an ivory color. The one featured in this project is called "Pine Cone". It pairs perfectly with CTMH's Cocoa.
My favorite part of today's work is the transformation of this frame:
I love the frame and the picture (of course) but the red really doesn't match the furniture in our den anymore. (Even though I LOVE red decor.)
So, I worked with PaperTrey Ink's Kraft Cardstock and my CTMH Cocoa ink & Embossing Powder and the stamp set from the "Stella" WOTG kit to create this mat and coordinate with the colors in our den. The larger font is stamped from the "Trinity" E-size alpha (also CTMH) and trimmed then taped to the mat. The smaller sentiment was stamped directly onto the mat. I stamped, embossed, and trimmed the lamp before adhering. The lamp shade is adhered with CTMH 3-D foam tape for added dimension. (If you never used that foam tape, it's fabulous! It comes rolled up in two different widths and you can trim off the exact size you need. LOVE it.) The pearl gems on the lamp shade are "Recollections" (Michael's) and the "bling" button is CTMH.
My second project from this afternoon was to fill a frame I recently purchased for our mantle. I used Kraft cardstock from PTI again and patterned papers from CTMH's "Bliss" kit. My sentiment is stamped from the "Chairs to You" stamp set (retired). And I used the same lamp, ribbon, button, and bow style from the first project for coordination.
Thanks for indulging my two-project post! Hope you have a great week.
