H2H Challenge -- Teacher's Gift 2011

This week is "ABC" challenge over at the Heart 2 Heart CTMH blog. "Anything But a Card" .... I had almost forgot about it and was blogging about the gift I made Avery's teacher when I realized this would work perfectly for the H2H challenge. Every now & again, things do fall into place.

It's been a crazy few days despite me taking the days off from work Thursday & Friday! How does that manage to happen? It's like I need to go back to work to rest and that's not right. No way - nuh-uh. Not doing it!   I wanted some time off to chillax w/my piglets (oldest one got out of school on Wednesday) and what do they want to do? Go to school and play w/friends! So, there have been friends over HERE. We have had a sleepover, we have been to the movies, we have been out to eat, we have been swimming and Mommy is done! (For a few days anyway). : )   After this post, I am hiding in my Fortress of Solitude for a while. Daddy is home and I think he is capable of making snacks and pouring juice and cleaning the kitchen table after they decide they really weren't hungry after all! : )

I did manage to sneak in time to make this adorable project for Avery's First Grade Teacher. And, by sneak, I mean that I set my alarm and got up at 6am on Friday to make this prior to going to her school to pick up report cards and next year's teacher assignment! I sketched it out on Thursday night w/specific notes b/c I have accepted the shortcomings of my short-term memory, especially as it relates to my creative side. The idea popped into my head after I have struggled with ideas for Mrs. Ladd for days. She was a really special teacher and I wanted to end the year with some type of momento from our family. Sadly, the idea didn't come to me until Thursday night when my energy was sapped and I just didn't feel that I could pull it off.

I used black and grey cardstock from &^%$#@ companies, Tulip colored B&T paper from "Perfect Day" and the stylish young lady is stamped from the "Be Yourself" stamp set; a real "go-to" stamp for all things feminine and fun! Printed sentiment on vellum, added some CTMH embellishments and VOILA! - the perfect little memorable momento. Mrs. Ladd's room is covered in ladybugs and red/black/white - also the school colors.

TFL and have a great weekend!

Four Crafty Chicks Challenge #38

This weeks challenge over at 4 Crafty Chicks is to use brads on a project. My card was already an idea in the making since my "Trees N Things" stampset is new and I wanted to play with it! For once, it paid off that I didn't get completely finished with it b/c this afternoon I had an idea that allowed me to work it into this blog challenge. I am grateful for the inspiration -- I knew I needed to take this card to another level and this was the perfect fit!

In addition to the brads, the picture gets a 3-D effect from the natural colored hemp attached for the rope holding the swing to the tree. I stamped the swing image a second time on kraft cardstock and cut out the seat of the swing, gluing it over the edges of the hemp for dimension and to finish it off. I have to add ribbon SOMEWHERE to all my projects and the twill bow gave me a little more substance.

SSD #75 and CR84FN27 challenges

I combined two challenges this week: a sketch challenge from Skipping Stones Design and a color challenge from CR84FN color challenge. I decided to use these two ideas for a graduation card for my niece. She graduated from Kindergarten on Thursday and I will get to see her tomorrow! She's very girly and frilly so she will love the bright pink and the butterflies. I had fun with this one as my first creative outlet for the week - well first card - I did whip out an adorable layout for another niece. BUT this was the end of the week and it was great to decompress in my "Fortress of Solitude" (my hubby calls it) and scrap away the loooong week!

Thanks for looking!

Sweet Baby Tess is 1!

Well I had such fun with this layout, I had to share. Fresh new stamp set from CTMH that I just ordered (You're Sweet). And, great pics of Tess from Easter weekend at my house. It was great getting to see her and how much she has grown! I used paper from CTMH "Key to My Heart" kit and the "Wings" kit ( I know - 2 projects using Wings paper ---> what if i run out????) and the orange papers are scraps leftover from other projects -- we'll just call them orange - ok?

All other products are CTMH. I'm nothing, if I'm not loyal! Thx so much for looking! Pin It

Skipping Stones Design & Four Crafty Chicks!

I'm quite ambitious this week with multiple blog entries on the same night as well as 3 challenge entries! I am cheating somewhat - and combining the Skipping Stones Design sketch with 4 Crafy Chick's distressing challenge. It just occurred to me to use for both when I was sanding my Wings paper for the sketch. As soon as I saw this sketch from SSD, I thought of my Wings paper packet (which I LOVE). The black B&T paper with the multi-colored butterflies came right to mind. I'm trying to guard against adding to my "hoarded" collection. Wings is dangerously close to being "hoardable". It's that cute!

PDCC #79 - color challenge

I'm getting better about trying new things! :)  I almost didn't participate in this challenge, b/c the colors "weren't me" ... but now it's turned out to be one of my favorite recent creations! I probably would have never wound up with these 2 pcs. of paper next to each other (esp. since one is contraband). Also, when I got the CTMH Cherry-O kit, I thought this stamp set wouldn't have much use beyond the paper kit itself -- and it's turned out to be one of my favorites! (I am really contradicting myself these days.) I love the way the cherries stamp up from this set. And, they were perfect for this card.

My pewter photo clips are my only grey, but I really like the little whimsical feel they add to the card. I don't have much, if any, grey paper.

Check out other great creations at the PDCC blog here.
